PLAYTIME IN THE FLIGHT AVIARY
March 28 was the first day of 2005 that was warm enough for birds to go outside...we took advantage of it...here are a few pictures from the day.
Five of the six macaws in residence went out...Louie BG is still pretty fearful so he stayed indoors on his play gym. Below are the other five, four BGs and a Military in the flight cage. It's 48 feet long, 12 feet wide, and 10 feet high...this shot is from one end. Michelle the Military is at the far end on a boing. All the BGS are stage front.
LEFT
This is an unusual sight...all 4 BGs on one play area. Usually Ralph (bottom) is aggressive towards the others. And, I did have to separate her to a different play area shortly after I shot this.
RIGHT
This is more common...Buddy and Aruba together. Gracie likes to hang in a boing in the middle of the flight, Ralph usually likes to go kill toys in her area, and Michelle has staked out a perch and boing near the door.
Michelle had never been outside before....and wasn't real sure about the wind and trees and birdcalls....but she did enjoy the space to wander when she got comfortable...then she decided this boing and it's perch area and feeders were going to be her turf. She kept coming over for snuggles to reassure her though.
